Samcon won an Award of Excellence from the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department for the mine reclamation project they completed in Sugarite Canyon State Park.

This project involved slope stabilization work, installation of structures for erosion and sediment control, soil amendments incorporation, watering systems, hydroseeding operations, and hand planting over 12,000 seedlings. Since this project is located on isolated, steep slopes covered with unstable coal waste piles with limited access, most of the work had to be done by hand, including hauling over 250 tons of materials up the mountain.
